Players are tasked not only to engage in main game modes, but also to solve daily and weekly tasks, upgrade their heroes, find new ones, build alliances with other players, reach alliance milestones, and engage in special events. The roster of characters in MARVEL Strike Force is separated into three groups – Heroes (over 70 of them), Villains (over 50), and Minions (a bit over 30), with new ones being added all the time.
The most famous of those sub-plot events happened during the promotion of the popular film Avengers: Infinity War. In addition to the core storyline, developers of this title have managed to commemorate the release of several Marvel Cinematic Universe movies with engaging in-game events, such as recreation of popular film battles and events. The player is tasked to collect heroes and villains, organize them into combat units, and bring them to fight against the evil forces of Ultimus (who has also managed to mind control many of the popular heroes of the Marvel universe). The story of the game is centered on the invasion of the evil Ultimus and the gathering of Earth heroes (including the large organization of S.T.R.I.K.E) who are willing to defend it.
